Google Earth Engine Workshop

The Natural Resource Management in Africa (NRM) Working Group hosted a successful Google Earth Engine Techniques Workshop on Thursday, October 16th! Sponsored by the UF Center for African Studies, co-organized by Geography PhD students Audrey Smith and Jessica Striley, and led by the GeoDI lab’s Postdoctoral Associate Dr. Yichan Li, 25 participants gained hands-on insights into applying Google Earth Engine for satellite imagery analysis.

Dr. Yichan Li led the beginner-friendly workshop, which introduced everyone to using Google Earth Engine (GEE) for exploring and analyzing remote sensing data. By the end of the session, all attendees had successfully set up their own GEE accounts, run the workshop code, and produced results—providing a hands-on introduction to satellite data analysis techniques. This workshop continues an annual tradition of capacity-building in geospatial analysis, supporting research related to natural resource management in Africa. Thanks to everyone who participated!
