Welcome Dr. Yichan Li to Our Team!

Yichan has joined our lab as a Post-Doctoral Associate! Yichan just finished her PhD in Geosciences at the University of Arkansas, where she focused on understanding rapid transitions between drought and flood conditions, an increasingly important topic as climate patterns become more volatile. Her research approach combines observational analysis, climate modeling, and agricultural impact assessment to understand how rapid shifts between extreme wet and dry conditions affect different systems. Expanding her focus to other extreme events, she joined our lab to explore her interest in fire regimes and their effects on both natural and human environments.

Yichan’s technical expertise spans climate data analysis, GIS applications, and machine learning approaches for environmental prediction. She has published in Water Resources Research and has additional work under review, including a paper at Nature Communications. Her research interests extend beyond drought-flood dynamics to include urban water infrastructure resilience, sustainable agricultural practices, and land use impacts on natural and human environments. In her free time, Yichan enjoys running, hiking, swimming, and rock climbing, all activities that Florida’s year-round outdoor weather supports well.
